Missions & Outreach

2014 Avery County Mission

A group of nine missionaries from Little Chapel departed October 20th, 2014 for Elk Park, NC, to work on a Habitat for Humanity Presbyterian Build.

Also on the agenda is a reunion with our Crossnore Presbyterian friends, a visit to The Crossnore School and a tour of our Presbyterian supported Grandfather Home for Children. The missionaries will return on Friday, October 24th and expect to be physically tired but spiritually renewed. Please pray for a successful mission experience and safe travels.

Daily Devotions for the 2014 Avery County Mission Trip

Prepared by Stephen Minister and 2013 Crossnore Missionary,

Linda Shahaltough

Please note: The devotions use “I”, “Me” and “My” to refer to God and Jesus, in an attempt to personalize the messages.

Day 1, Monday, October 20th

Psalm 118:24 “

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Thank Me for this day of life, recognizing that it is a precious gift. Trust that I am with you each moment, whether you sense My presence or not. Be willing to follow where I lead. No matter how steep the path is before you, the safest place to be is by My side.

Day 2, Tuesday, October 21st

Psalm 32:8

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel and watch over you.”

I am leading you step by step through your life. Let Me guide you through this day. I will show you the next step forward, and the one after that, and the one after that. Relax and enjoy the journey in My presence, trusting Me to open up the way before you as you go.

Day 3, Wednesday, October 22nd

Romans 12:6

“We have different gifts according to the grace given to us. Let us use them.”

Not only have I given you natural abilities, I also equip every believer with spiritual gifts for the purpose of ministry. I don’t use the unwilling. I won’t force you to serve Me. My part is to equip you, empower and prepare you for service. Your part is to be faithful, available and aware of opportunities to use your gifts.

Day 4, Thursday, October 23rd

Matthew 4:19

Then Jesus said to them “Come, Follow Me.”

When I called My disciples to follow Me, it was an invitation to become like Me and to share My passion for those who need a Saviour. The high honor of being my follower should show in your lives as well. I, too, have called you to catch the attention of the watching world as you talk, think and act like Me.

Day 5, Friday, October 24th

Psalm 81: 3-4

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him and the son of man that your care for him?”

I speak to you continually though not always with words. I fling glorious sunsets across the sky, day after day. I speak in the faces and voices of loved ones. I speak softly in the depths of your spirit, where I’ve taken up residence. Practice looking and listening for Me during quiet intervals. Gradually you will find Me in more and more of your moments.
