Missions & Outreach
Troop 232 is a fully chartered and accredited troop in the Boy Scouts of America. It was first chartered in 1963, became inactive from 1982-1989, and reactivated with its current sponsor, Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, in 1989. It has been continuously chartered since that time. It is a member of the Cape Fear Council, BSA and is in the Masonboro District. Our meetings are on Monday nights from 7 to 8:30 during the school year.
We have had many outstanding Scoutmasters and are fortunate to have had their leadership. They are as follows: Hardy Wessel, 1963-1969; George Benedict, Jr., 1969-1973; Henry Rehder, Jr., 1973-1989; Steve Gillham, 1989-1996; and John Bennett, 1996 to present. These Scoutmasters have led over 60 scouts in our troop to become Eagle Scouts throughout its history.
Every month we have a Patrol Leader Council meeting that does a good job of planning our monthly outings or camping trips. Some of our favorite places to camp are the Uwharrie Mountains, Enos State Park, Linville Gorge, local privately owned properties, canoe and camping along the Cape Fear River, Boy Scout affiliated summer camps: Camp Bowers, Camp Cherokee, Camp Daniel Boone, Camp Grimes and Camp Raven Knob and for the older scouts: Philmont and Sea Base High Adventure trips.
Some of our service projects have included working at the Salvation Army’s Woodlot, Scouting for food, toy collection during the holidays, helping with the Heartwalk, Relay for Life, supporting the Triathlon, and many other community service activities and Eagle projects.
We have many scouts who are also active in the Order of the Arrow. Many of them perform in the ceremony and dance teams, as well as help with Webelos Crossovers to Boys Scouts including Arrow of Light Ceremonies for local Cub Scout units.
