Session

At Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, the Session is the governing body of our congregation. As a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation in the Presbytery of Coastal Carolina, we follow a representative form of government in which elected leaders, guided by the Holy Spirit, care for the spiritual life and ministry of the church. The Session is composed of ruling elders — lay members of our congregation who are elected and ordained to serve — together with our installed pastor, who serves as moderator. Our current pastor, the Rev. Caroline A. Jinkins, moderates the Session. A Clerk of Session is elected to keep official records and support the work of the body. Our Session serves the congregation through areas such as worship, Christian education, congregational care, stewardship, finance, property, missions, membership, and personnel. The Session meets monthly to pray, discern, and make decisions that support the life and mission of Little Chapel

The Session is responsible for guiding the overall ministry of the church. This includes:

  • Providing for faithful worship and the celebration of the sacraments

  • Nurturing the spiritual growth of members and welcoming new people into the life of the congregation

  • Overseeing Christian education, mission outreach, and care for one another

  • Stewarding the church’s resources, property, and finances

  • Supporting the staff and planning for the future of our historic beachside ministry

While the congregation elects its elders and makes major decisions (such as calling a pastor), the Session provides faithful day-to-day leadership so that Little Chapel can continue to be a welcoming place where people worship the Lord Jesus Christ, connect with God’s people, and serve by faith. Our Session works in partnership with our dedicated staff to help our congregation grow in love and commitment to God, to God’s people, and to God’s work in the world — just as we have done since 1907.
